Dengue is an acute, infection disease usually seen only in the tropics, although epidemics have occurred in the southern United States. Dengue is also known as dengue fever and breakbone fever. It is caused by a virus transmitted by the same family of mosquito that carries yellow fever.

There is no specific cure for dengue. Complete recovery usually takes place within a few weeks, and an attack gives immunity for a year or more.
Treatment consists of bed rest, analgesics to relieve pain, and enough fluid to counteract dehydration through sweating
